By those two measures, this device lives up to its billing: it offers tremendous value for the price – you’ll rarely find a purifier for under $130 that can handle large spaces this well – and it really does churn through gargantuan amounts of air. Additionally, it’s fairly efficient as far as energy consumption goes, given the rate at which this unit works.

Honeywell air purifiers are almost always a good bet. But let’s explore this unit further.
As noted above, the Honeywell 50250-S follows through on its two big selling points. First, it provides tremendous value – certainly one of the best air purifiers for the price.
Second, the 50250-S processes huge amounts of air. It effectively manages air in large rooms, and does so without causing a huge spike in your electric bill.
Energy Usage
On it’s lowest setting, this unit draws between 50 – 90 watts of power. On higher settings, the wattage gets upped to between 140 – 190 watts. None of that is too bad, given how hard this unit works to manage air in large rooms.
The Honeywell 50250-S deals with dust extraordinarily well. The unit boasts a 250 CADR rating for dust, and it lives up to that number. But there have been complaints that the 50250-S struggles to deal with lingering odors in large rooms, particularly when it comes to cigarette smoke.
Design
Design-wise, the 50250-S is simple but crude. The unit isn’t concerned with its appearance; it’s only concerned with churning out purified air. But the fact remains: this device could end up being an eye-sore if you wind up using it in common spaces like your living room.
It’s a bulky, clunky unit (it measures at 18 inches by 18 inches by 19 inches). So good luck trying to hide it in a corner.
Design may or may not matter for you. If function is your main concern, however, this unit still has some drawbacks.
Noise
The biggest flaw with the 50250-S is the noise it produces. This is a loud device, especially on high settings. Customers often report that the device is difficult to have in living rooms because the noise makes it hard to watch TV.
Likewise, you may have to turn this device off at night, because the noise makes it difficult for light sleepers to get to bed.
Using a clean filter goes a long way toward reducing the noise. But this device is a noisy one, plain and simple, regardless of filter cleanliness.
This unit has its drawbacks. But it’s cheap, it’s pretty effective, and it handles large spaces well.
